The HTC One M8 is still the current favorite for HTC fans after the MWC announcement of the HTC One M9 was more of a bust than a success. The HTC One M8 is last year’s flagship but the handset is still considered to be future-proof and powerful compared to the competition. Thanks to being more than a year old, the One M8 can now be bought for a very good price if you do your research, and thanks to Google and HTC, it’s going to be future-proof for a little while longer.
HTC and Google have confirmed that the HTC One M8, as well as the One M9 will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the latest installment in operating system from Google. Unfortunately, the One M7 is not part of the Marshmallow update schedule for HTC, as the company dropped support for the phone a couple of months ago. The HTC One M8 should be receiving updates for another year, while the One M9 should retain support for another two.
The HTC One M8 seems outdated in the face of the new devices that have been announced since its own debut, but user testimonies prove that the handset is more than capable of keeping up with the times. Adding the One M8 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update into the mix results in a possibly entirely new user experience, with Sense 7.0 being revamped by the company. Although changes in Sense 7.0 were not yet announced, we might even see Sense 8.0 being launched this year.
The HTC One M8 Android 6.0 update release date is uncertain, seeing as Google hasn’t even released the AOSP of the new OS. Fortunately, the launch of the new Nexus 5 2015 and Huawei Nexus 6 2015 is close, which means the new OS will also be released shortly. Rumors suggest that the new Nexus line-up is going to be debuted this week at IFA Berlin 2015, so we only have a few days to wait. Once the new Nexus devices are released, Android 6.0 Marshmallow will start being sent out to manufacturers and carriers across the globe.
With that in mind, the One M8 Android 6 update release date should be in November, or December at the very latest. Although HTC hasn’t provided a timeline for the update schedule, it seems plausible for the update to start rolling out within two months of the OS update announcement. HTC was a bit late last year to roll out Lollipop to HTC devices, but representatives of the company have reassured fans that they’ll be working hard to make the Android 6.0 update schedule work better for fans this year.
Until the HTC One M8 Android 6.0 update comes around, I suggest you guys follow IFA Berlin and the new launches we’re going to see there, as excitement around the fair is already boiling. We’ve seen the new Xperia Z5 Premium and its compatriots, Motorola has already announced the Moto 360 2015 in two sizes and extra customizability, Asus demoed a plethora of devices and Huawei’s Watch is also official, although expensive. We’ve a lot to look forward to this month, but the One M8 Android 6.0 update might not be one of them. Patience is key, though!
